Club History
 |
The Virginia Tech Table Tennis
Club was officially established in August 2002. Prior to that players
could only play in individual competitions, mainly the ACUI Regionals/Nationals.
|
 |
In November 2002, the Virginia
Division of the NCTTA was created, Virginia Tech played a crucial role in
the creation of that division. In the previous years the Virginia schools
were part of the Carolina Division of the NCTTA, which made it practically
impossible to compete due to travel distances and thus the Carolina
Division had only schools from North Carolina representing it in the NCTTA
Nationals. |
 |
In the first year of Division
play, the team won the Division without losing a single match. The ‘B’
team finished 2nd in the Division finishing ahead of other ‘A’
teams. After winning the Division, the ‘A’ team went on to the Nationals
in Philadelphia and finished the season ranked 9th in the
country among a total of 75 colleges members of the NCTTA. |
 |
Our Division includes: UVA,
James Madison University, Eastern Mennonite University and Bluefield
College. |
 |
In terms of numbers, within 1
year the Virginia Tech club has established itself as a Top 3 club in the
nation in size. |
 |
Another important fact is that
this year Virginia Tech will be fielding the first ever Women's College
Table Tennis Team in the United States. Not even scholarship teams like
Texas Wesleyan have that honor. The Women's Team will play in the Virginia
Division as a separate team competing against all other teams |
Club Membership
 |
Membership is open to all
members of the Virginia Tech community (including faculty/staff) . Only
Virginia Tech students can be part of the 'A' Team, and faculty/staff
members can play in the other teams. |
 |
The club has an Annual
Membership Fee of $10, to be paid by the 2nd Practice of the Season.
The fee is to
cover the Annual Membership fee of the NCTTA, table rentals for
practice/tournaments and to buy practice equipment. With the payment of
the fee, each player gets to play in NCTTA events, attend practices, get
access to the club video library, use of the club’s training equipment. |
